Blight got half my tomato plants, tell me this happens to everyone

Went out Tuesday morning and the bottom third of the bed had gone. Brown lesions on the stems, leaves curling, the whole thing. Pulled eight plants and burned them. This is year three and it is the first time it has happened, which somehow makes it worse. I had started to think I was good at this. I grow in raised beds, drip irrigation, decent spacing. Wet July is the only thing I can point at.

It happens to everyone and it happens for no reason you can control. Wet July will do it on its own, drip irrigation or not, because the spores come in on the air and not up from the soil. Burning them was right. Do not compost anything from that bed and do not plant tomatoes there next year. Anyway, three years without it is a good run.

Lost an entire bed to it two summers ago. The part nobody warns you about is how fast it goes. Fine on Sunday, gone by Wednesday.

Both of these help more than you would think. Rotating to the far bed next season and trying not to take it personally.
