Build kit: Question Pursuit

A board game for the unanswered queue. Members draw a mystery card, answer a real community question and win the category wedge, with points for every answer.

Theme: Engagement
Setup: Developer Studio + connector
Version: 1.2.3

How it works

  1. A connector lists unanswered questions and the widget sorts them into game categories.
  2. The member draws a card and reads the full question in a pop-up. Three skips are allowed.
  3. They answer in a rich text editor, and drafts are kept while they play.
  4. The reply is posted through a connector, so it shows up as a normal answer in the community.

Built with

Developer Studio widget, Five connectors: list questions, read question, list replies, post reply and member check, HTML dialog element

Download

The downloadable build kit is coming soon. It will hold the widget files, the registry entry, the connector definitions, setup notes and a rebuild prompt. Anything specific to our community has been replaced with placeholders that start with YOUR-.

Set it up

  1. Copy the folders from this kit into your Developer Studio repository, keeping the same paths.
  2. Add the entries from extensions_registry.snippet.json to your own extensions_registry.json. Every folder the registry points to has to exist, or the whole build fails.
  3. Create an OAuth2 client under Integrations > API in Control, and add its ID and secret as Developer Studio secrets with the names used in the connector definitions.
  4. Add the connectors from connectors/connectors_registry.snippet.json to your own connectors_registry.json.
  5. Search the files for YOUR- and replace every placeholder, such as category or profile field IDs, with your own values.
  6. Commit and push, check the build under Integrations > Developer Studio > Sources, then place the widget with the No-Code Builder.

Rather build your own version?

Copy this prompt into an AI assistant such as Claude and fill in the parts in square brackets.

I want to build my own version of "Question Pursuit" on my Gainsight Customer Communities site.

What it does:
A board game for the unanswered queue. Members draw a mystery card, answer a real community question and win the category wedge, with points for every answer.

How it works:

Built with: Developer Studio widget, Five connectors: list questions, read question, list replies, post reply and member check, HTML dialog element
Setup level: Developer Studio + connector

My community:
- Community URL: [your community URL]
- Brand colors and fonts: [your colors and fonts, or ask me to follow my community theme]
- Anything specific: [category names, product areas, languages, who should see it]

What I need from you:
Give me complete, ready-to-use files for a Developer Studio widget (index.html and app.js, using the widget runtime and Shadow DOM), the connector definitions it needs, and the entry to add to extensions_registry.json. Tell me which API credentials and secrets to set up. Secrets must never appear in widget code.
Before you write anything, ask me for details you are missing, like category IDs or profile field IDs. Keep it as simple as it can be, and explain each step so I can maintain it myself.

New around here? Say hello. There is no format. Most people cover what they cook, how long they have been at it, and one thing they are trying to get better at. I will start. I run this community, I have been cooking Mexican food badly for about fifteen years and well for about four, and the thing I am still working on is not overfilling. Knowing the correct fill weight and respecting it are two different skills.

Anna, six months in, started because I moved somewhere with no decent taqueria within an hour. Currently trying to get through a whole burrito without it structurally failing. Making progress.

Tina. Two trucks, about four hundred covers on a good Saturday. I am here mostly for the throughput conversations, though I will admit I have learned more from the hobbyists than I expected to.

Frank. Retired two years ago and have been cooking beans from dry ever since, which my wife says is not a personality. Working on tamales, badly.

Andrei, mechanical engineer, came here because I could not accept that a burrito failure was random. It is not. It is fill geometry and moisture. I have been told this is insufferable and I accept that.

Maya. I nixtamalise my own corn, which takes two days and means I post about four times a year. Hello.

I made a post in Getting Started last week, got some replies, and then found a typo and edited it. Now I cannot tell if the edit moved it back to the top of the category or whether people who already replied were notified of the change. I cannot find anything in the community help docs about how editing works. Does the edit timestamp show anywhere visible? And does editing trigger notifications to anyone?

Editing does not bump the topic and does not send notifications to people who have already replied. The edit timestamp is visible to moderators but not to regular members, so from everyone else's perspective the post looks the same — just with better text. The one exception is if you edit within the first few minutes of posting, which is treated as part of the original submission. Anything beyond that is a quiet edit.

Useful to know about the moderator visibility. I had assumed nobody could see edit history at all.
