Does the order the fillings go in actually matter?

I have been putting things in more or less at random and it mostly works, but I keep seeing people talk about layering like it is a real thing.

Is there an actual order, or is this one of those things people say because their grandmother did it?

It is real and the reason is moisture, not tradition.Dry starch first, so rice on the tortilla. Then protein. Then anything wet, salsa or crema, in the middle where it is surrounded on all sides. Cheese last, on top, because it melts down through everything else rather than sitting against the wrap.The rule is simply that nothing wet should ever touch the tortilla. Follow that and the exact order matters much less.
